IMAP* is the latest protocol used to retrieve messages from a server. By using this, you can keep all your emails on all of your devices in sync with the server.
POP*, on the other hand, is an older protocol used for communication. It downloads messages and deletes them from the server. What is great about this protocol is that you do not consume that much online disk space.
Wait for your device to verify all the settings
If you have chosen IMAP, select whether you sync your mail only or mail and notes > Click Save
Your account should now be up and running.
Depending on your Apple IOS version, you iPhone or iPad may try to set up connection with SSL enabled.
If you see an error that says Cannot connect using SSL, select Yes

*The Differences between POP and IMAP
Both POP (Post Office Protocol) and IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) allow people to get access to their email from a remote server; however, that is where most similarities end.
*POP simply downloads email to your computer, and usually (but not always) deletes the email from the remote server. The problems arise if you have more than one device and you some emails on one device and other emails or another device. If you delete an email from one device it's still on the other.
*IMAP allows users to store their email on remote servers. This two-way protocol also allows the user to synchronize their email among multiple devices, which is extremely important today, when most people have at least two devices - their laptop and smartphone.
This is the preferred protocol by many however, please keep in mind that the server mail box will fill faster on IMAP, so regular housekeeping of the account needs to be undertaken more often.
